Manor House Produce

is a well-established business that dates back to the 1920's. The present owner's great-grandfather and his sons created it to sell the produce grown on Arreton Manor Farm. As surplus produce was taken to the mainland markets to be sold, fruit and other items not indigenous to the Island were brought back.

The company "C.B. YATES &SONS" became a by word for the quality of it's fresh produce, an ethos that is at the very heart of it today.

The death of C.B.Yates saw Arreton Manor sold and considerable downsizing of land under self owned production. However an Island wide network of growers enabled the commitment to selling only the freshest possible vegetables to continue.

In 1973 the company amalgamated with a neighbouring farmer and moved out of the family owned premises to a new purpose built yard, in Chapel Lane, Merstone. For a while the new bigger operation traded profitably but the over proliferation of supermarkets on the Island very soon eroded "King & Yates Ltd.'s" natural customer base.

So began the lateral expansion into supplying the catering trades. Over the next 20 years the number of vehicles and employees sadly had to be reduced as the bulk of the volume of the retail trade moved to it's new home. However as people's taste changed and the demand for new and different produce grew the company responded by rapidly expanding the range of exotic produce it stocked.

Varieties of produce went from being available on an order only basis, to being stocked, to becoming staple lines. The death of one of the directors and the retirement of the others saw another generation of the founding family take the helm.
Merstone, quiet little hamlet that it is, was no longer suitable for a thriving fresh produce business in the 21st century. So the search started for new, more centrally located premises. This was achieved in 2001, When the company relocated to Daish Way and created Manor House Produce.

A large investment in new vehicles and technology guarantees the infrastructure to continue the commitment to selling the finest possible produce.

The new extension to the warehouse is completed and a cash and carry facility has been opened. This enables our customers to phone in orders, have them picked and packed ready for collection or just call in and browse around the store and see what you fancy.

The extra room allows us to respond to long term demands to stock a range of dry goods. A supplier is in place and we are starting to stock the new lines now.
